Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
Have you been paying attention? Or are you still wringing your hands about losing to Trump last fall (what feels like a lifetime ago) while he has shredded our liberal democratic institutions? Have you ever considered watching where the support has gone? Or are you so beholden to the same billionaires that own the GOP that you honestly are part of the same class that only gives lip service to a more equitable country for all? Because guess what? We’re mad, we’re activated, and we aren’t going to vote for someone who appeases billionaires and let them further monetize what is left of us.
I am going to say it. The politicians in this country have been snowballing us. That is the real reason for lack of voter engagement. Voters can’t put their finger on it, but we know that we elect people who promise to make things better and nothing changes. Wages still stagnate and fall against inflation. Benefits keep getting cut. Voters are sold a “gig economy” as a method of survival, even though it requires that the “employee” be a “private contractor” with almost no rights, no recourse, and a lot more investment in keeping their “job” than their parents had ten years before.
WE KNOW YOU’RE LYING. If you want to survive as a viable political party, it is time to dump the donor class and focus on the fact that more than 50% of us would vote for a sincere candidate who doesn’t throw a group under the bus, who stands up for ethics and getting money out of politics. Yeah, you won’t get rich being the new Democratic party, but you could do something else.
You could LEAD. You could create a real, just and equitable society that values education, the middle class, and “the rest of us.” There are even billionaires who ask “why aren’t we paying our fair share of taxes?” You want a good platform? Run on a constitutional amendment ending Citizens United. Get money out of politics. Run on repealing the BBB, restoring a more progressive tax system and truly addressing what is causing income inequality and restore some fairness to the US. Run on getting rid of health insurance companies and instituting Medicare for all. Run on making us more like Norway. Run on ending the ICE raids and creating a safe path to citizenship for people who have paid taxes and invested in their community, regardless of what happened to their visas. If they haven’t had a violent crime and are a good citizen, give them a way to stay here.
More of us care about these things than don’t, and many MAGA voters have had their eyes opened. I am passionate about this. I am here to bring people along because I know this is a marathon and not a sprint. I have the heart and the courage to help people. Please, help me plug in to do it. I want to help coordinate voters, inform voters and educate them. We skip educating people on policy in a complex world. They NEED to understand the reality of immigration: too many people believe people sneak here under cover of darkness and hide until they give birth as a method of immigration. They don’t understand amnesty requests and credible fear interviews. They need to know they exist. If we want people to support getting to a better place in the world, they need to see a roadmap to get there, and be encouraged to engage again with politics in this country. I want to help people do that.
Please do not skip this chance. With our binary political system, I am very afraid that, if you do, a third party challenger will arise and dilute the frustrated people, allowing MAGA to stay in power, disappearing innocent people, threatening institutions like the courts, the press and education, and further eviscerating the safety net. In this dire moment in our country, please, stand.
We are waiting for you.
